7th & 8th Grade Summer Math & Reading Work
Background: These summer reading and math assignments will count as your first grades of the 2018-2019 school year. You will read and take quizzes in Accelerated Reader and complete a mission in Kahn Academy throughout the summer to ensure you are consistently using your tools.
Purpose: It is natural to forget things we learned over the summer unless we practice them on our own year-round. By continuing to read a range of books for at least 20 minutes a night and practice your math skills using Kahn, you are more likely to be able to make connections to what we did in class to your work at home as well as maintain or grow your NWEA reading and math scores next year.
Accelerated Reader Directions: You will read 4 books at your Lexile level and take the quiz with an accuracy percentage of at least 85%. You will take your quizzes during these specific weeks, to ensure that you are reading consistently throughout the summer.
REMEMBER before you start reading, check to see that the book as an AR quiz (arbookfind.com) AND that you haven’t already taken a quiz on that book (use your AR account).
Lexile: Login: FirstLastHmrm (ie, DeniseRewers305) Password: YOUR CPS ID#
NO COMPUTER?: You can go to a public library or take quizzes on your phone. But if you are traveling or out of the country and cannot use AR, you may write a summary of the story’s plotline (please read FICTION books if you are using this option as nonfiction books do not follow the traditional plotline format.)
